My Thoughts On the Season 9 Cast

So the cast for Season 9 of RuPaul's Drag Race was revealed a few days ago, and I have some thoughts. I have been reading what everyone else thinks and it seems like I have some uncommon opinions so I thought I would share. I'll go through the queens one by one and divulge my opinions, including how I think they will do in the competition, what I think of their promo look, and who they remind me of.

Disclaimer: I am judging purely based on their promo looks and their individual Meet the Queens videos.

Aja

I like Aja. I don't know why, but there is something very captivating about her. I don't, however, think she is going to win. Everyone thinks she is the winner, I don't know if it's based on a rumour that I'm not aware of (I try as hard as I can to keep away from rumours and spoilers), but I don't see her winning. I do see her making it pretty far and I'm definitely excited to see more. Not to mention, her photo is beautiful.
Reminds me of: Naomi Smalls, and her outfit matches the colours of Kim Chi's promo look.

Alexis Michelle

I am loving Alexis Michelle. She exudes confidence without being cocky (unlike some of the queens I'll talk about later), and class without acting superior. I love her outfit, and the way her makeup ties into the dress. I see her leaving sometime after Snatch Game, although ideally I'd like her to make it to top 3.
Reminds me of: Delta Work.

Charlie Hides

I desperately want Charlie Hides to be in the top 3. I hope she doesn't get the old queen treatment and get kicked off early. She seems very smart and like she knows how to play the game. I really hope she doesn't disappoint. I love the look, the colours are great (and are Aja's wig and outfit colours reversed) and I especially love the eyepiece. I think she will be definitely one to watch.
Sidenote - HOW is she 52?? Girl looks good.
Reminds me of: I don't know.

Eureka O'Hara

Eureka seems fun, she appears to have a lot of personality, but does she have what it takes to be America's next drag superstar? I don't know. I love her confidence, being a big girl, she gives me a bit of a Latrice vibe. While I like the colour of the outfit, I don't like the ensemble itself. I don't particularly like the hair, and I would like the dress to be longer. I'm curious about her name, how she removed the O'Hara for the show - does she not want people to associate her with Phi Phi? Also, she is NOT 25.
Reminds me of: Latrice Royale, Ginger Minj.

Farrah Moan

Unpopular opinion: I don't care about Farrah Moan. At all. She looks beautiful and photographs well, but I don't think she has personality, and she didn't make enough of an impression on me for me to form a real opinion on her. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike her, but I also don't think she should make it very far. We'll see though, I don't mind being proved wrong.
Reminds me of: Courtney Act, Violet Chachki, Derrick Barry.

Jaymes Mansfield

I'm not a fan of Jaymes Mansfield. I don't like the look and I certainly don't like the weird creepy baby voice. It seems that everyone either loves or hates her, which is interesting, I think she is very polarising. As with Farrah, I'm waiting to be proved wrong, but I don't see myself becoming a fan of hers. I see her going early on.
Reminds me of: Jinkx Monsoon, BenDeLaCreme (even though I like both of them).

Kimora Blac

If I didn't care for Farrah Moan, and I didn't like Jaymes Mansfield, then I absolutely hated Kimora Blac. She is obnoxious, stuck up, pretentious, vapid and bland. I am happy at least that we've found our villain. Unfortunately this means that she'll probably stick around for quite a while. In an ideal world, she'd be first to go home. I'll give her this though, she does look hot in drag. Out of drag, she looks like a plastic surgery disaster.
Reminds me of: Venus D-Lite.

Nina Bo'Nina Brown

I LOVE Nina Bo'Nina Brown. Everything about her, her look, sense of humour, personality. She has it all. I don't think she'll win but I think (/hope) she'll go far. I'm concerned though because quirky look queens like this never seem to make it far. We'll see, but nevertheless I'm beyond excited to see more from her.
Reminds me of: Acid Betty, Nina Flowers.

Peppermint

Huge props to Peppermint for being the first transgender contestant to be open before the show. However, I don't think it is a good sign that when I first started writing out this list, I could not for the life of me remember her. America's next drag superstar, above all, needs to be memorable. Also, that hairline? Girl.
Reminds me of: Kennedy Davenport.

Sasha Velour

Sasha is my absolute favourite this season, and despite the fact that my favourites never win, I can definitely see Sasha winning, or at the very least in the top 3. She is the real deal - she's intelligent, she's stylish, she's got a sense of humour and a personality. It doesn't get any better than this. Everything about this look is amazing, I love her signature monobrow, and how is that fascinator staying on her head?
Reminds me of: Violet Chachki.

Shea Couleé

Shea is one of the only two queens I outright dislike this season. I love the look, but I found her cocky and arrogant: "I'm gorgeous, I'm talented, I can sew, I can dance, I can act, I can sing, I can put my legs behind my head, I can speak French". I also found it irritating how she had a Laganja-esque soundboard, continually just saying common phrases. I see her making it pretty far though.
Reminds me of: BeBe Zahara Benet, Laganja Estranja.

Trinity Taylor

*spoiler alert* Before I heard about the leak that Peppermint is going home first, I said Trinity was going home first. Now I think she's going home second. She seems nice though.
Reminds me of: Sasha Belle.

Valentina

Valentina is on the same level to me as Farrah Moan, everyone loves them but I don't really care. She is beautiful, and I love this photo, but there is something off about her and I don't know what it is. Everyone seems to think she will go very far, I'd put her at about the halfway mark.
Reminds me of: Tatianna, Naysha Lopez.

So there you go, those are my opinions on the cast of Season 9. I'm sure many of my thoughts don't align with yours, and that's fine. It's not personal, it's just drag.

The Best Queens According to Raja and Raven

Raja and Raven in Fashion Photo Ruview

Over the last couple of years I have tabulated Raja and Raven's toots and boots into an excel spreadsheet so I can get a visual depiction of how each queen fairs. I decided to use this data to rank the queens from Season 4 to Season 8 according to how many toots and boots they have gotten. In order to limit the amount of queens at the same ranking, I have taken 'top toots of the week' into consideration. After a few hours of sorting through data, here it is:

53. Penny Tration & Magnolia Crawford
These two queens have quite a bit in common: both sashayed away first in their respective seasons (Magnolia technically second, but first of her bunch), and neither have received a single toot from Raja or Raven.

52. DiDa Ritz
Season 4, 6th place.

51. Cynthia Lee Fontaine
Season 8, 10th place, Miss Congeniality.

50. Tempest DuJour
Season 7, 14th place.

49. Pearl
Season 7, runner up.
(I was shocked too).

48. Darienne Lake
Season 6, 4th place.

47. Kandy Ho
Season 7, 10th place.

46. Honey Mahogany & Jasmine Masters
Season 5, 10th place & Season 7, 12th place.
Honey Mahogany made herstory when she was eliminated with Vivienne Pinay.

45. Mrs. Kasha Davis
Season 7, 11th place.

44. Kennedy Davenport
Season 7, 4th place.

43. Joslyn Fox & Jaidynn Diore Fierce
Season 6, 6th place & Season 7, 8th place.

42. Madame LaQueer, Alisa Summers, Vivienne Pinay, Trixie Mattel & Naysha Lopez
All these queens represent the halfway point between good and bad - receiving an equal amount of toots and boots.

41. Sasha Belle
Season 7, 13th place.

40. Laganja Estranja & Max
Season 6, 8th place & Season 7, 9th place.

39. Adore Delano
Season 6, runner up (All Stars 2, 9th place).
Adore made RuPaul's Drag Race herstory when she walked out of the competition in All Stars 2.

38. Jade Jolie
Season 5, 8th place.

37. Gia Gunn
Season 6, 10th place.

36. Latrice Royale
Season 4, 4th place, Miss Congeniality.

35. Laila McQueen
Season 8, 11th place.
Laila was eliminated with Dax ExclamationPoint, the second pair to get eliminated from the show simultaneously.

34. Chi Chi DeVayne
Season 8, 4th place.

33. Milan
Season 4, 9th place.

32. Serena ChaCha, Vivacious & Tatianna
Season 5, 13th place, Season 6, 12th place & Season 2, 4th place (All Stars 2, 6th place).

31. Alyssa Edwards
Season 5, 6th place (All Stars 2, 5th place).

30. Milk
Season 6, 9th place.
One of the most underrated queens.

29. Jiggly Caliente
Season 4, 8th place.

28. Courtney Act
Season 6, runner up.

27. Derrick Barry
Season 8, 5th place.

26. Kenya Michaels
Season 4, 5th place.

25. Kelly Mantle & Dax ExclamationPoint
Season 6, 14th place & Season 8, 11th place.

24. Coco Montrese
Season 5, 5th place (All Stars 2, 10th place).

23. Jinkx Monsoon, Naomi Smalls & Robbie Turner
Season 5, winner, Season 8, runner up & Season 8, 7th place.

22. Willam
Season 4, 7th place.
Willam is the first and only contestant to be eliminated from the competition.

21. Chad Michaels
Season 4, runner up (All Stars, winner).

20. Thorgy Thor
Season 8, 6th place.

19. Phi Phi O'Hara
Season 4, runner up (All Stars 2, 7th place).

18. Miss Fame
Season 7, 7th place.

17. Sharon Needles
Season 4, winner.

16. Bob the Drag Queen
Season 8, winner.

15. Lashauwn Beyond
Season 4, 12th place.

14. Katya
Season 7, 5th place, Miss Congeniality (All Stars 2, runner up).

13. Ginger Minj
Season 7, runner up (All Stars 2, 8th place).

12. Bianca Del Rio
Season 6, winner.

11. The Princess, Monica Beverly Hillz & April Carrión
Season 4, 11th place, Season 5, 12th place & Season 6, 11th place.
This is where the list hits a little snag. These queens were only on the show for a few episodes, and Raja and Raven didn't give them many boots, so therefore they have a high toot percentage. Can't be helped. (I actually think April deserves her spot here though).

10. Alaska
Season 5, runner up (All Stars 2, winner).

9. BenDeLaCreme
Season 6, 5th place, Miss Congeniality.

8. Kim Chi

Season 8, runner up.

7. Acid Betty
Season 8, 8th place.
Went far too soon.

6. Detox
Season 5, 4th place (All Stars 2, runner up).
She has the second most iconic finale look.

5. Lineysha Sparx
Season 5, 9th place.

4. Violet Chachki
Season 7, winner.
The best look in all of RuPaul's Drag Race herstory. I made the picture extra large so you could stare at it. I would end the list here but we've still got three more queens that are apparently better.

3. Trinity K Bonet
Season 6, 7th place.
When I think hard about it, Trinity has never disappointed with a look. It sucks that she had to go home wearing this amazing costume.

2. Ivy Winters
Season 5, 7th place, Miss Congeniality.
The best queen for making outfits.

And finally...

1. Roxxxy Andrews
Season 5, runner up (All Stars 2, 4th place).
If you have watched Fashion Photo Ruview, it should be no surprise to you that Roxxxy is in first place. Raja and Raven show obvious bias towards her, and while I do think she has turned out some great looks (plus who can forget that wig reveal), I don't personally believe she is the best fashion-wise.

So that rounds off the list, I hope you enjoyed reading this, it took me 8 hours to make this.

Leave a comment telling me what you think, or what you want me to talk about next!
